While It Last
During the 3rd week of November after dropping off the Buddha statue (image) at its new home my team said to me, “...sometimes things are given to you not for you to keep but to forward it to its rightful place...”
I've been reflecting on what they said and it made a lot of sense.
Be it things or people, nothing in life is permanent. This is why the wise always say to ‘treasure what you have now’ and when the time comes ‘it is ok to let go,’ especially when it comes to the things and people we so dearly wish to keep in our life.
Things are not just about you but it is about everything and everyone.
The people in our lives each have their own life to live. The things in our lives each have their own purpose. It is wrong for us to hold onto something or someone in order to fuel our ego when we are meant to one day be without one another. By holding others back we are also stopping ourselves from moving towards the great things we are called to do without them.
So if this message finds you at the right time, may this too remind you to treasure what you have now and to be humble enough to release whatever it is that will leave you when the time comes.
And, as you learn to let go and move forward without certain things and people in your lives, may you cherish the memories you have left. May you quietly root for them on the sidelines because who knows, maybe one day you will meet each other again but in a better and cooler version.
Until then, treasure the memories.
Before that and while it lasts, show them that you care.
Treat them well.
Communicate your appreciation and love.
And, when it's time,
Thank them.
Thank them for the memories you have made together, for the lessons they have taught you, and for the love and the joy they have brought you. Then wish them well on their new ventures.
And, last but not least, grief.
Be sad that the time has finally come for you both to move forward. But bounce back and cheer up because while it lasted it was something beautiful. Something memorable. Something different. Something that was real, once upon a time.
