Portraits & Why
As a photographer one of my most asked questions from my clients is, "Why aren't you promoting your photography business using portraits?" Well, I can. But, here's the thing!
Photography to me started at a very dark and personal level and through that I learned that before we can invite anyone to celebrate life with us we must first learn to celebrate it with ourselves. Not by ourselves but WITH ourselves.
Secondly, as an empath, I absorb a lot of emotions whether that's through seeing, communicating, or being around people. Emotions are sacred, they're visible and they're real. Therefore, as an individual, I believe it's only right for the individual in the portraits to share the image as they want because it's their rightful moment. As a photographer my job is to capture the beautiful person inside out within the right moment.
Thirdly, sometimes my clients comes to me with a lot of insecurities and mental health issues and with the wave and power of social media a lot of things can not only go right but oftentimes will go wrong. Whatever the situation may be portraits from me are a gift to my clients. To show them that they are beautiful and that they too should be celebrated.
I once had a client said, "Thank you for the shoot. I've never been so confident. My weight has been my biggest insecurities and though I have worked with a few other photographers before I've never felt this beautiful." Hearing her say this makes me enjoy my job even more and have inspired me to continue the work I’m doing.
Fourth, nature on its own is indescribably beautiful. With it, carries an invincible healing power. Something I believe we all need. Life is what we make out of it. Once we're able to see the beauty of nature we'll be able to see the true beauty of life. Sometimes it's not about seeking what’s out there but it's about what's already there, what’s within. This is why a bigger portion of my commitment is towards landscape photography.
